Privacy
Privacy, in plain English
Last updated 14 October 2026.
The short version: this is a simple website. We don’t use tracking cookies or ads, and we don’t follow you around the web. If you join a list, we keep your email address (and your city, for meetups) only to send you what you asked for, and you can leave at any time.
When you read the site
- No cookies from us. We don’t set any cookies or use any advertising tools.
- Visitor counts. When it is switched on, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics
to count page views: which pages are read, roughly from which country, and
on what kind of device, as totals. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on
your device and doesn’t fingerprint you, and we can’t see individual
visitors. Its small script loads from
static.cloudflareinsights.com. When it isn’t switched on, no analytics script loads at all. - Our host. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes basic technical data, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. If its security systems need to check a visit, Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie. We don’t use this data to identify you.
- Fonts and images are served from our own site, not from third-party services.
- “Hear it” buttons on phrase cards use your device’s built-in Thai voice. We don’t receive anything. Depending on your browser, that voice may be provided by your browser or operating-system maker.
- App Store links take you to Apple. They carry a tag saying which page you came from, so we can see which pages help people find the app. The tag says nothing about you.
When you join a list
Our newsletter and meetup sign-ups are not open yet. Before they open, we will name the email provider we use right here.
When they do open, this is how it works:
- What we collect: your email address and which list you joined. For the meetup list, also your city and a confirmation that you’re 18 or older. Nothing else.
- Why: to send you the newsletter, or to tell you when a meetup is planned near you. Nothing else.
- Your consent: you’ll get one email asking you to confirm. Nothing is sent until you do.
- How long: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Who sees it: only us and the email provider that stores the list for us. We never sell, rent or share your details. Meetup hosts don’t get the list; we invite people ourselves.
- Never public: we never publish who has signed up, or anyone’s location.
Stories and listings
There are two different things here, and we treat them differently:
- Your own story. Reader stories, community listings and anything personal you send us are published only with your clear permission, and we take them down within 48 hours if you ask.
- Public figures and public creators. Our directories of famous luk khrueng and half-Thai creators list people with a public profession (published authors, released musicians, established podcasts and channels, public athletes), and quote only what they have said publicly themselves, with a link to where they said it. Anyone listed can ask us to change or remove their entry through our corrections page, and we do it within 48 hours.
We never publish photos of real children.
Age
The site is open to everyone, but our lists are for people 16 and over, and community features such as meetups are for adults (18+).
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw your consent at any time. We’ll answer within 30 days. If you’re not happy with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Our contact address is coming soon and will appear right here.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the change affects people on our lists, we’ll tell them by email first.
Community survey
Our community survey and the quick “which app next?” vote are anonymous by design.
- What we store: only counts. Each fixed answer you pick (for example “Khao soi” or “Sweden”) adds 1 to a running total for that answer. We never store your answers together, so there is no record of one person, not even an anonymous one.
- What we never store: your name, email, IP address, browser details or the time you answered. There is no free text, no account and no cookie.
- On your device: after you answer, your browser remembers a small “already answered” note (in local storage) so you aren’t asked twice. It never leaves your device; clearing your browser data removes it.
- Spam checks: our host, Cloudflare, may run its Turnstile check before your answers are accepted. That check sees technical data such as your IP address to tell people from bots; we only receive a yes or no.
- Adults only: the survey is for people 18 and older. If you tell us you are under 18, nothing is stored.
- What we publish: totals only. An answer appears only once 20 or more people have chosen it, and the results only once 50 or more have taken part.
- Your rights: because we hold no data that can be linked to you, we can’t find or delete one person’s answers. Your consent covers adding your answers to the totals; you can simply choose not to take part.
