Years and dates
Thai dates normally use the Buddhist Era (B.E., พ.ศ.), 543 years ahead of the Western year: 2026 is B.E. 2569, written ๒๕๖๙ in Thai digits. You will see it on birth certificates, ID cards and the house registration. Our Buddhist year converter does the sum both ways.
Questions people ask
Do Thai people use Thai numerals?
Mostly not day to day: prices, phones and the internet use 0–9. Thai digits still appear on government documents, some official forms, temple signs, banknotes and in formal printing, so they are worth recognising.
How do you write 2026 in Thai numerals?
Digit by digit: ๒๐๒๖. Thai dates usually use the Buddhist Era, though, which is 543 years ahead, so 2026 is ๒๕๖๙ (2569).
How do you count to ten in Thai?
nueng, sorng, saam, sii, haa, hok, jet, paet, gao, sip (in RTGS: nueng, song, sam, si, ha, hok, chet, paet, kao, sip).
Why is 11 sip-et and 20 yii-sip?
Thai counting is regular except for two words: a 1 at the end of a number above ten is เอ็ด (et), so 11 is สิบเอ็ด, and 20 uses ยี่ (yii) instead of สอง, so 20 is ยี่สิบ.
